I decided to start working on 3D printing a bit this year because I think it would be fun. my favorite animal is a hippo, so I decided to make a hippo design in tinkercad. below is a picture of what I made.
one of the hardest things I had to do for this project was taking all the extra bits off after the design printed. I forgot to take a picture of the design before I took all of it off, but I do have a picture of what it looked like after. below is a picture of the finished project. you can see where all the rafting was.
the reason there was so much stuff to take off was because there needed supports for the gaps in the build. below is a picture of the places that needed support. the three places to look at are below the head, the body, and the tail.
I've decided to start working on a dog, too, because who doesn't like tiny dog statues? I am done with the head and am working on the body the same way I did for the hippo. below is a picture of my progress.
I am going to size down the head to fit the body and add a tail to the body, but other than that, I think this dog is going pretty good.
Below are some before/after pics of the rafting on the dog. Top: before Bottom: after
this print was a lot easier to get the rafting off of than the hippo. the body wasn't as high up off the ground, so I think that really helped. this print also took a lot shorter to clean up. the hippo took a whole period, but this took maybe ten minutes. below is a picture of them both together.
Ms Kushner gave me the idea of making a stop motion with these prints, but I can't make a stop motion with just two 3D prints, so I'm making a bird as well. below is a picture of my progress so far.
the bird was pretty easy to make, so the only thing I plan on doing is adding detail. below is one side of the bird. the other side looks about the same.
I finished all the 3D prints and now I am creating a background in photoshop. below is the start of the background.
I decided to put clouds and a sun behind the mountains, as well as some nice green grass. I wanted to get some variety in the grass, so I did some different shades of green.
I discovered the smudge tool, so after adding some detail to the mountains, I smudged it all together to get an effect I like.
I think the next thing I'm going to do is start doing the stop-motion.
10/15/18 update I am going to do the stop motion, like you can see above, but I also want to do apparel. I would like to do a plain white short sleeved shirt but it has a cool design on it.
I just finished my stop motion and I am super happy with how it turned out! today is October 30th so it has been a while since I started making the video. I hope everyone enjoys it!
I am now going to do the shirt. first, I am going to make the design. below is the finished product.
then I had to put it on a shirt. I cut the design in some heat press vinyl in the vinyl cutter, then peeled off the parts I didn't want on the shirt. I couldn't find a white shirt, but there was a deep blue shirt that I used instead. I put the shirt on the heat press and the vinyl on the shirt, and I pressed it on.
1. My favorite project was animations and creating movies. 2. Some skills I learned were how to use flash and how to use the heat press. 3. Some challenges I faced were putting pictures on a thumb drive and it not going.
